Asbury's CalendarIt seems that all too often we get lost in the hecticness of our day to day lives, and without realizing it we find ourselves to busy to enjoy life. The same can be said about our faith journies. Your faith journey should be one that is marked with discipleship, sacrifice, and stewardship...but it should also provide you with an opportunity to unwind and recharge. When you are tired, you can easily fall victim to the pressures and the stresses around you. At Asbury Church, we believe that there should be as many opportunities for fellowship as there is for mission. We believe that all opportunities we have to join together as a community should be marked with laughter. Our calendar is full of fellowship, learning, and mission activities and we hope that you will join us. We know that you will find them to be moments to recharge. Our events are usually free, and we ask that you continually check our website for the most up to date information available. Dont forget to also visit our Ministry Pages for details on some of the ongoing ways we serve our community. Check out these exciting events at Asbury Church: JUST ADDED:
The Moore Family Gospel Singers On Sunday, September 26th, the Moore Family Gospel Singers will be performing at our Sunday Morning Worship Service (10am). We will follow the performance with a period of fellowship. There is no admission for this performance, although a free will offering will be taken to offset the band's travel expenses. Please join us for this exciting morning. For additional information on the Moore Family Gospel Singers, visit their website at: http://sites.google.com/site/moorefamilygospelsingers/ Asbury Yard Sale Returns in September Although we had originally planned for achurch dinner on Saturday, September 11, the Chesterfield School will be hosting its annual benefit dinner on the same night. Understanding how important this event is for many in the community, the leaders of Asbury Church have decided to cancel our September dinner. But that doesnt mean that nothing is happening that weekend! Saturday morning, Asbury will hold another annual yard sale, after having them put on hold for several years. Please come by and support our church. We are also accepting donations for this sale (Sorry, no mattresses or electronics). Feel free to drop off items at the church! We hope to see you there!
Bible Study Wednesday (Every Wednesday at 6:30, During the Summer Months: Every Other Week) During the summer, every other week members of Asbury Church join in fun, fellowship, and study on Wednesday's at 6:30. We invite all members, friends, and neighbors to join us in our weekly study lead by Pastor Scott. We are currently discussing our way through Old Testament using Jewish commentaries, to understand not only the original meaning and impact of scriptures, but how they have evolved over time. The best part of this current study is that you dont have to come to everyone to gain new and meaningful insights from the OT. Come once, or for every session. We look forward to seeing you there, and feel free to email Pastor Scott if you want to confirm the next date of our meeting (pastorscott200@yahoo.com). Community Dinners Although Church Dinners are one of the primary ways in which Asbury raises money, they are also one of the funnest things we do. We are committed to preserving this long lived New England Tradition of community dinners, and in insuring that we have fun while we run them. We find them a great opportunity to work together, laugh together, and to reach out to our community. If you are interested in volunteering either for setup on Friday, or for service on Saturday, please send us an email, otherwise, plan on coming out and enjoying some of the best food and company you will ever have at a church dinner. All of our dinners are held at the Chesterfield Town Hall (Just past the church on the left, if you are heading down 63 to Hinsdale), and our scheduled dinners are as follows for the summer:
Asbury Church Youth Fellowship After a successful CAMP EDGE (Experiencing and Discovering God Everywhere) Vacation Bible School during the summer of 2009, Asbury Church has decided to extend our programming throughout the year. We typically meet on the third Friday of every month. On our Edge Evenings, open to all kids from 6 and up, we kick off the evening with a kid friendly meal and a brief gathering assembly. Each night we will play games, make crafts, create music, and build friendships. For our older youth, we will have breakout sessions more age appropriate. In addition, we are underway in the planning for this summer's Vacation Bible School. This will be the second year where we utilize a two week format. The first week, we will meet at 5:30PM, on Tuesday and Thursday. The second; Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. We begin with a kid friendly meal, and immediately kick into structured activities were kids learn about faith, God, and living as faithful people in the world today. The multi-week format, allows for families that have work schedules that don't accomodate a full week of day sessions to participate, and has been recieved incredibly by our community. We invite our entire community to join us. For additional information please call the church at 762-0764 or via email at pastorscott2007@yahoo.com Asbury Fellowship Nights It is our goal to hold a night devoted solely to fun and fellowship. At Asbury, we believe Fellowship is an integral part of faith journey, and we are committed to having many events with this in mind. At Asbury we enjoy Game Nights, evenings offamily friendly movies, and have even gone on a kayaking adventure. These events are a great success, and they allow friends, family, church members, and neighbors to spend an enjoyable evening just having fun and developing friendships. There is no charge, and urge you to invite your neighbors. Please return to this location, or send us an email, for updates as these nights approach. Use the contact page to join our mailing list, to be kept abreast of these exciting events. Asbury's Facebook Group Online: For those of you unfamiliar with Facebook, it currently exists as the world's largest social networking site on the internet. Although similiar in size to MySpace, Facebook has 170 million current registered users and is growing in leaps and bounds each day. Users of Facebook are provided with a massive amount of networking and connectivity, and each day over 100 churches establish a presence on the site. Churches have discovered that they serve a valuable purpose, which includes; keeping members and associates informed of special events, providing resources to visitors and members, linking the church with the community, and an unprecedented level of outreach.
